She couldn't believe it. It had finally arrived. She had wanted this for so long and now that it had arrived she was so overjoyed. She was going to try and keep it a secret. How long could she manage that? Well she knew it had to be until she would meet the little boy she picked to adopt for the holidays.

The promotion at work had been good to her. She never felt as confident as she had now. She even went on her first business trip. She bought several new outfits, a couple pair of shoes, and some accessories just to complete her ensembles. She never looked better.

Everyone had made comments about how much better she seemed to look and feel and she just beamed.

Today was one of those days that she was beaming for reasons other than for herself. This box that had just arrived was going to make one family very happy for the holidays.

She was single had no children of her own. When she had overheard a conversation in the office about being able to adopt a child for the holidays. She didn't quite know what all it entailed but she really thought what a loving, and great idea. She knew she could afford it and she loved kids. She fessed up to the idividuals who were having the conversation that although she was not listening to their conversation but, that she did catch that and wanted to know more about it. Her friend laughed and said wow really? I didn't even think it would be something you were interested in but thank you oh so much. Here is what you have to do. She gave her a number to call. They will tell you what they have open for kids ages and what there needs are. All you have to do is make sure you purchase something and that you wrap it and deliver it where they tell you too. What? Thats it? Well that is easy but, I want to see the child. I want to see their little faces delight when opening it. Well I guess you can ask if that is something they can arrange but it isn't the way things usually work. Okay with all the info in tow she went home and made her call. She went a little overboard but she figured what the heck she didn't have a large family and there really wasn't any little kids anymore. So she bought a small television, three complete outfits, a pair of pajamas, sock and underwear, a pair of sneakers, winter coat and hats and mittens and the one really big big gift. She knew that the child she was buying for had always wanted to participate in sports but, was not fortunate enough to be able to do that due to his medical condition. So she picked up a wii game unit which came with the sports games and she also got the wii fit bundle and made sure this little boy was going to beable to play sports be warm and have a few gifts under the tree this year. She also arranged to be able to spend the afternoon with him to give him his gifts.

She arrived at about 11:30. There she saw him, a tiny little boy who looked about six but he infact was ten. He had many medical issues but she was going to make sure this Christmas he only had a smile and some fun. With that she got out of her car carrying the gifts. She introduced herself and she smiled. As he looked up at her with a very welcoming smile on his face. She took him to a table and let him sit down. She needed to get a few things out of her car. She made some homemade fudge and cookies. She hurried back and said how are you? So nice to meet you? He too was excited to meet her. He couldn't believe all the packages, even more so when she said they are all yours! He had a tear trickle down his cheeks, as he lifted his head with his eyes looking at her and he said why so much? She said because I love kids and I don't have any. If I can help make someone smile why shouldn't I? Besides today is Christmas it is your day to have fun and to get presents. So come on open up. As he unwrapped the clothes the enthusiasm went down a little but, that is expected with kids. He loved the outfits but you could tell he wanted to play. So he began unwrapping the television a twinkle was quickly brought back to his eye. He said, may I open the large box now. She said well you sure can. He couldn't open it quick enough paper flying everywhere. He stopped as soon as he saw Wii. He began to cry. He stood up and hugged her. He said oh my god this is the best christmas ever. She started to cry as well. He quickly opened up the other remaining packages to see that he had gotten the wii fit and another miscellanous game as well as his wii came with the sports package. He was so overjoyed. He thanked her over and over again. She helped him carry things back to his room and got his wii set up and his clothes hung up and the others put in drawers.

They came back out to the common area where she was approached by one of the counselors. That was a very generous gift ma'am. Well I am so glad I was able to do that for him. I am thinking this little boy hasn't had an easy time of things and today he has a smile that can't be erased. The couselor was smiling as well and thanked her for her generosity and kindness. She looked up at the counselor and asked I was wondering can I take him out for a quick christmas dinner and bring him right back? The counselor looking a little sad said, no ma'am we are not allowed to let any of the patients in our care out with anyone unless they are on our mentor program. You will have to apply to do that and you can specifically ask for him. Really? Okay can I have the application. She sat down and quickly filled it all out and submitted it. She then said to the counselor okay if I can't take him to lunch may I bring lunch to him. Oh ofcourse. Okay she asked him if there was one thing she could get him to eat what would it be? He told her McDonald's. McDonalds for a Christmas dinner? Yes he said, with a giggle. Okay you got it. She rushed out and was back in a flash with a Christmas dinner like no other. They talked and laughed and said their goodbyes. This was one Christmas she would never forget, and the first Christmas that had meant anything to him.
